Low Level Deck Installation in Purley

This low-level Millboard deck in Purley replaced an uneven and impractical patio with a larger, level outdoor living area. By carefully extending the usable footprint into the garden, we created a more comfortable space for seating, dining and everyday enjoyment.

Replacing an Uneven and Impractical Patio

Our clients found us through the approved installer scheme on Millboard’s website. They contacted us because of our experience designing and installing decks using Millboard’s premium composite products.

The existing patio was uneven and offered limited usable space, making it difficult to arrange outdoor furniture or use the area comfortably.

Following our site assessment, we developed a plan to replace the patio with a low-level deck that would provide a more practical transition between the house and garden.

Creating a Larger Outdoor Living Area

To increase the available space, we excavated a small section of the adjoining garden and extended the deck beyond the original patio area.

This allowed us to create a larger, level surface with more flexibility for outdoor seating and dining. The low-level design sits comfortably within the garden, while the Millboard decking provides the attractive appearance of natural timber with a durable and low-maintenance finish.

The completed deck has transformed a difficult area into a practical outdoor living space that feels like a natural extension of the home.

Frequently asked questions...

Why choose decking instead of replacing the patio?

A low-level deck allowed us to create a level and comfortable outdoor surface while extending the usable area beyond the original patio. It also introduced the warmth and character of timber without the maintenance requirements of traditional wooden decking.

Can a low-level deck be used to cover an uneven area?

Yes, provided the site is properly assessed and prepared. A professionally constructed subframe can create a stable, level surface above difficult or uneven ground.

Why was part of the garden excavated?

Excavating a small area allowed us to enlarge the footprint of the deck while keeping the finished surface at an appropriate height. This produced a more generous and practical outdoor living area.

Does a low-level deck need ventilation and drainage?

Yes. Good airflow and effective drainage are important to the long-term performance of any decking installation. The structure and surrounding ground should be carefully planned so that water can drain away and moisture does not become trapped beneath the boards.
