We replaced a rotten oak deck at this property in Kingswood, Surrey, with low-level Millboard decking in Brushed Basalt, finished with a contrasting Smoked Oak picture-frame border.
The existing oak deck had deteriorated and reached the point where replacement was the most appropriate solution. We removed the decaying timber and prepared the area for a new low-level decking installation.
The clients chose Millboard as a durable, lower-maintenance alternative that would retain the character and detailed appearance of natural timber without requiring the same ongoing treatment.
We installed Millboard Brushed Basalt across the main decked area. Its deep, dark colouring created a strong contemporary surface that worked beautifully within this established Kingswood garden.
To complement the main boards, we added a Millboard Smoked Oak picture-frame border. The contrasting tone defines the perimeter and gives the completed deck a more distinctive and carefully detailed finish.

Traditional oak decking may require periodic cleaning, sanding and protective treatments as it ages. Millboard does not require regular staining, sealing or oiling, although routine cleaning is still recommended to keep the surface looking its best.
