What began as a request to repair several broken posts became a complete replacement after we uncovered problems with the original subframe. We rebuilt the raised deck in its familiar layout using Trex composite boards and a new wire-rope balustrade.
The client initially contacted us to repair a few broken posts. However, once we inspected the deck more closely, it became clear that the underlying subframe had not been constructed particularly well and the timber had deteriorated beyond the point where isolated repairs would provide a reliable solution.
After discussing our findings, the clients decided to remove the rotten timber deck and rebuild it using the same established layout. This preserved the design and access that already worked well within the garden while allowing us to create a properly constructed replacement.
We rebuilt the raised decking and steps using Trex Transcend composite boards in Island Mist, providing a smart, durable and lower-maintenance alternative to the original timber surface.
New timber posts and a matching handrail were installed with stainless steel wire rope between them. This complemented the existing patio balustrade and helped the new deck feel connected to the wider garden. The completed installation retained the character of the original design while providing a much stronger and more attractive finish.
