Two-Tone Ground-Level Decking in Carshalton

We created a distinctive ground-level deck at this home in Carshalton, Surrey, combining Redux Dusk boards with a contrasting Smoke picture-frame border for a smart two-tone finish.

Adding Character Through Contrasting Colours

The client wanted their new deck to have more character than a conventional single-colour installation. We used Redux Dusk for the main decked area, introducing a contrasting border in Smoke to break up the larger surface.

The darker picture-frame detail defines the shape and edges of the deck while giving the whole installation a more considered, individual appearance.

Frequently asked questions...

What is ground-level decking?

Ground-level decking is installed close to the surrounding garden level, creating an accessible outdoor surface without the height of a raised deck. On this Carshalton project, it provided an attractive space that connected naturally with the rest of the garden.

Does ground-level decking still require a subframe?

Yes. Every deck needs a properly designed supporting structure, regardless of how close it sits to the ground. We must also consider drainage and ventilation so that water and moisture are not unnecessarily trapped beneath the boards.

What is a picture-frame decking border?

A picture-frame border uses decking boards around the perimeter to create a clearly defined edge. It can introduce a contrasting colour, conceal cut board ends and give the completed deck a more carefully finished appearance.

Does Redux decking contain timber?

No. Redux is a wood-free composite decking product manufactured using recycled plastic. Its solid construction and deep woodgrain detailing provide the appearance of timber with a durable, lower-maintenance finish.
