Home Decking and Pergola in New Malden

The new owners of this property wanted to replace an ageing timber deck and unstable pergola with a more attractive, practical and low-maintenance outdoor space. Using Trex Island Mist composite decking, we created a redesigned deck and bespoke shaded dining area shaped around how they wanted to use the garden.

From a Tired Timber Deck to a Clear New Vision

Our clients discovered us through the Trex installer network after deciding that composite decking offered the appearance, durability and low-maintenance finish they wanted for their garden.

The existing timber deck had become tired, and the pergola above it was unstable and lacked the character they wanted. After discussing how they would use the space, we reviewed several previous projects together and began sketching ideas for a more refined, versatile outdoor area.

We selected Trex Island Mist for its contemporary grey colouring and subtle tonal variation, which perfectly complemented the client’s vision.

Location: New Malden, Surrey

Installation: Composite decking with bespoke pergola

A Redesigned Deck and Shaded Outdoor Dining Area

Rather than simply replacing the original deck like for like, we reconsidered its shape and relationship with the surrounding garden.

The revised layout created a more purposeful area for outdoor dining while leaving a dedicated section at the front for planting. This helped soften the structure and allowed the finished deck to sit more naturally within the garden.

A bespoke pergola was incorporated into the design to provide an impressive shaded dining area and a much stronger architectural feature. Together with the Trex Island Mist decking, it transformed the original space into an attractive, comfortable and low-maintenance extension of the home.

Frequently asked questions...

Why was Trex composite decking chosen for this project?

The homeowners wanted a durable and low-maintenance alternative to their ageing timber deck. Trex provided the appearance and contemporary colouring they preferred without the regular staining, painting and ongoing maintenance associated with traditional timber decking.

What colour Trex decking was used?

We used Trex Island Mist, a sophisticated grey decking with natural-looking tonal variation. The colour worked particularly well with the new pergola and the wider garden design.

Did we retain the original shape of the deck?

No. We redesigned the footprint to make better use of the available space and create a more practical outdoor dining area. The new shape also left room for additional planting at the front of the deck.

Was the pergola built as part of the decking project?

Yes. We designed the pergola as an integral part of the new outdoor space. It provides shade for the dining area while adding height, structure and visual interest to the garden.
