Roof Decking and Lighting in Twickenham

We transformed a tired and unsafe timber roof terrace with Trex composite decking, a carefully designed pedestal-supported substructure, contemporary black railings and integrated deck lighting.

Replacing an Unsafe Rooftop Timber Deck

The existing timber decking had become tired and unsafe, so we removed the complete installation and prepared the roof terrace for a durable replacement.

Roof decking requires a carefully considered substructure. We used plastic support pedestals to raise the deck frame above the roof surface, avoiding direct contact between the frame and the roof. This creates space beneath the decking for airflow and drainage, helping to protect both the roof and the new deck over the longer term.

Trex Decking, Signature Railings and Lighting

We finished the terrace with Trex Transcend composite decking in Gravel Path, creating a smart and low-maintenance outdoor space with a warm, natural appearance.

Stylish black Trex Signature railing kits were installed around the terrace, providing a secure enclosure with a clean, contemporary finish. We then added integrated Trex lighting to enhance the atmosphere and make the rooftop deck more enjoyable after dark.

Frequently asked questions...

Can composite decking be installed on a roof terrace?

Yes, provided the roof structure, waterproof surface, loading and drainage requirements are carefully considered. We design the decking system around the individual terrace rather than treating it like a conventional ground-level installation.

Why are support pedestals used beneath roof decking?

Support pedestals raise the deck frame above the roof surface and prevent it from resting directly on the roof covering. The space beneath the structure allows water to drain and air to circulate, helping to protect both the decking system and the roof.

Can railings be fitted around a rooftop deck?

Yes. A suitable railing system can provide a secure enclosure while complementing the appearance of the decking. On this Twickenham terrace, we installed black Trex Signature railings for a smart, contemporary finish.

Can lighting be incorporated into composite decking?

Yes. We can integrate deck lighting during the design and installation process, positioning it to complement the layout and improve visibility after dark. Trex lighting provided the finishing touch to this rooftop decking project.
